Huie's Points of Pride
Huie Elementary School’s 2025-2026 Points of Pride reflect a strong commitment to excellence in partnerships, instruction, literacy, college and career readiness, and student achievement beyond the classroom. Across all areas, Huie continues to build a supportive learning environment where students are challenged, celebrated, and prepared for future success.
Through powerful partnerships with district leaders, community stakeholders, and local, state, and national organizations, Huie has secured valuable donations of time, resources, and materials that directly support students and teachers. Partners actively engage with students by reading in classrooms, providing instructional materials, and offering incentives that reinforce merit-based programs and celebrate student success. A key highlight of these partnerships is the Southside Medical Health Clinic, whose groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting have expanded access to essential healthcare services for students, staff, and families—positively impacting wellness across the Forest Park community.
Instructionally, Huie Elementary has strengthened teaching and learning through engaging, standards-based family events such as Math Fright Night, Game Night, and Lights, Camera, Action Literacy Night. These experiences provide students and families with hands-on strategies to support academic growth while also reinforcing classroom instruction and supporting teachers in delivering high-quality learning. In addition, students and parents have participated in artificial intelligence (AI) learning opportunities, including a dedicated parent AI workshop, equipping families with tools to understand and support responsible, ethical, and effective use of emerging technology. These efforts continue to strengthen home-school connections and enhance instructional practices.
Literacy remains a central focus at Huie Elementary through ongoing reading initiatives that build a love for learning and increase access to books and digital resources such as myON and Amira. Students participate in book fairs, reading challenges, and schoolwide literacy events supported by district leaders and community guests who serve as guest readers and sponsors of reading incentives. These experiences foster excitement around reading, healthy competition, and collaboration across grade levels. Community partnerships have further strengthened literacy by adopting classrooms and donating hundreds of books for students to take home throughout the year, ensuring continuous support for reading development.
College and career readiness is fostered through College and Career Week, which exposes students to a wide range of future opportunities. Students interact with local business leaders, college students, and professionals while also exploring entrepreneurship through a student-led business fair. These experiences build financial literacy, creativity, confidence, and an early understanding of career pathways, helping students connect their learning to real-world opportunities.
Finally, Huie students excel as competitors in both academic and athletic arenas. Students proudly represent the school in district and state competitions including Spelling Bees, Flag Football, Basketball, Soccer, Cheer, Cross Country, Science Olympiad, Reading Bowls, Challenge 24 Math Competition, Hear Our Voices Competition, and the STEM Forward Pitch Competition. Huie students earned 2nd place in the statewide STEM Forward Pitch Competition. Additionally, student-athlete Jordan Smith was recognized as CCPS Huie Elementary School Basketball Athlete of the Year. These accomplishments reflect the dedication, talent, and perseverance of Huie students as they continue to thrive both inside and beyond the classroom.
